Dr. Ariana Anderson

I have been practicing small animal medicine since 2003, and working as a relief veterinarian since 2010. My goal is to provide relief for hardworking veterinarians and continuity of care for our patients. I approach each case individually to determine a pet’s and client’s needs and how to provide the best care possible in that situation. I take pride in providing excellent client service, getting along with a variety of staff members, and treating everyone with respect.

Communication is a vital component of practicing good medicine. I enjoy educating clients about both wellness care and medical conditions, and I frequently use Veterinary Partner or other resources to help clients further understand their pets’ conditions. I am very capable of sensitively guiding clients through decisions about serious illnesses and end-of-life care. For communication within the clinic, I keep detailed medical records to facilitate smooth transition of patient care. I am comfortable with Avimark, Neo, Cornerstone, E-Vet Practice, and Vetter, and can quickly pick up other systems. I also have very legible handwriting if paper records are kept. I speak Spanish semi-fluently, and can write instructions and drug labels in Spanish if needed.

I work well with a wide variety of personalities and can adapt to various protocols. I favor the AAHA vaccination guidelines, but I vary from this in a reasonable manner to be consistent with each clinic’s procedure. I seek out continuing education both by formal lectures and participating in discussions on VIN (Veterinary Information Network). Professionally, I am interested in chronic diseases such as dermatology, renal disease, IBD, and endocrine diseases. I also enjoy counseling clients in these cases. I practice primarily general medicine, but I have a little experience in urgent care and have taken (and organized) emergency call in my Alaska home for several years. My services are limited to canine and feline medicine. This may be extended to surgery after I am familiar with your clinic staff and available anesthetic drugs. However, I can certainly take care of minor medical issues which require sedation, such as abscesses and superficial wounds.

I believe my job is to do whatever it takes to keep the clinic in which I am working running smoothly and build the relationship between clients and the clinic. I have a history of working as a relief veterinarian for multiple veterinary clinics that serve the same area, and I am scrupulous about confidentiality, professionalism at work and in the community, and trying to fit into each clinic’s “culture” the days I am working there. I have taken in stride a variety of surprises: house call practice when the van is broken, switching the medical records system the week before I arrived, Internet and power outages… whatever happens, I try to keep the clinic functioning as well as it possibly can!

As an independent contractor, I have business licenses as required, and professional liability insurance. I also have a DEA license and I am accredited by the USDA to write health certificates in each of my states of licensure.
